FREEVIEW is the free non-subscription digital TV provider in the UK where you pay a one-off fee for the digital TV Freeview box and nothing more. The Freeview channels you get free access to are the main TV channels which will be shutting down on analogue TV in the next few years: BBC1; BBC2; ITV; Channel 4; & Five. And you get free access to a further 43 digital TV channels including BBC3, BBC4, ITV2, ITV3, ITV4, UK TV History, Five US, Fiver and many more plus 24 radio stations.
Freeview isn't available in all post code areas and the solution for those without coverage or poor coverage may be to obtain a digital TV service by a satellite dish. For the majority who can get a Freeview signal by the TV aerial, you have three choices for obtaining Freeview: the cheapest is to by a set-top box which converts any television to a digital TV (Digital Boxes from Dixons); or you can buy a digital TV with Freeview built-in, or you can buy a digital TV recorder which both receives digital TV signal and allows you to pause, record and rewind (Digital TV Recorders from Dixons).

FREESAT is a new digital service from the BBC and ITV offering free HD TV programming at no extra cost. Freesat is broadcast via satellite, so you’ll get TV, radio, interactive TV, and HD TV with crystal clear reception, and it’s available to approximately 98% of the UK population. Freesat has no monthly subscription, just a one-off payment for the digital box, satellite dish and installation which needs to be done by a qualified intstaller which you arrange when you purchase Freesat from a retailer such as Comet or Dixons: FREESAT from Dixons; FREESAT from Comet. Some HD Ready TVs come with FREESAT tuner built-in but you will need to install a satellite dish as well.
